    Last-minute parties and resources

Written by Todd on August 7, 2009 at 8:30 am

We are looking forward to the start of the 2009 MS Challenge Walk.  In the past, we have hosted many of you for our MS Challenge Walk Celebration in late August.  This was a chance for you to receive more information about the event, get your Travel and Information Guide and Change of Clothes Bag, have dinner, and hear some inspirational stories from fellow Challenge Walk participants.

In this difficult economic times, we are always looking for ways to cut expenses so that more of the money you raise goes to the mission of the National MS Society.  To that end, we decided not to have a Challenge Walk Celebration this year.  Please know though that the National MS Society will mail all the event information and supplies you need in mid-August.  In the meantime, you can download the 2009 Travel and Information Guide.

If you wish to get an early start on meeting your fellow walkers, we invite you join a training walk in either Lexington or Cape Cod, each which will earn you $50 in bonus bucks. Also be sure to stop by the Cape Codder hotel the evening of Thursday, September 8th, for early check-in and a meet and greet the night before the Challenge Walk itself.

Everyone at the Central New England Chapter is eager to see you in September at the MS Challenge Walk!

    Team-building at the NMSS warehouse

Written by Todd on July 31, 2009 at 10:01 am

Believe it or not, the MS Challenge Walk is right around the corner. We are planning our packing schedule for the MS Challenge Walk as we have five trucks worth of event supplies, food, water, medical supplies to bring down to the Cape. As you can imagine, this is an enormous undertaking and we are looking for your help!

We are looking for volunteers who can come to our warehouse location to help in getting organized for this event. This is "fun work", not to mention a tremendous help to us. While the work is manual labor, it is not backbreaking by any means.

Do you have any free time during the weekdays of the weeks of August 24th or August 31st between 9 AM — 5 PM? If you do and would like to come to our Waltham MA warehouse location to help, please let us know. We can work around your schedule and have a variety of projects for Challenge Walk participants to help with. If you have a block of a few hours free, we could really use your help.

Please pass this message on to any family or friends that may be interested in being a part of this effort. It would be an invaluable help to us as we prepare for the MS Challenge Walk.

    Wanted: One national anthem singer

Written by Todd on July 13, 2009 at 11:45 am

The MS Challenge Walk begins and ends with ceremonies, and we want you to be a part of it. As you arrive on the Hyannis Village Green the morning of Friday, September 11th, there will be various warm-ups, stretches, and exercises to help get ready for your first 20 miles. But before we go, we'll pay our respects to the American flag.

We are looking for a walker or crew member to sing the national anthem at the Hyannis Village Green that Friday morning at 8 AM.  If you or someone you know is a vocalist who wants to contribute to a great start to the MS Challenge Walk, please email mschallenge@mam.nmss.org, or call 800-344-4867 option 2.

    Joyce Nelson's Challenge Walk blog

Written by Todd on June 8, 2009 at 1:40 pm

Several chapters of the National MS Society have their own MS Challenge Walk. For most of us, walking just a single such walk is a vast undertaking. But for Joyce Nelson, the President & CEO of the National MS Society, each event is an opportunity to meet people from around the world who are dedicated to a world free from MS. So rather than dedicate herself to just one, Joyce is tackling them all.

As Joyce walks in several MS Challenge Walks around the country this summer and fall, you can follow along with her as she trains and walks. Follow her blog at http://nmssociety.blogspot.com/

Of course, we at the Central New England chapter are rather partial to our own walk on Cape Cod. Have you participated in any of our other national events?

On behalf of the staff at the National MS Society, Central New England Chapter, we would like to welcome you to the MS Challenge Walk.  Thank you for accepting the Challenge not only to walk 50 miles over three days, but to actively raise funds that will lead us toward a world free of MS.
