Weekend memories

Summary:

Congratulations to the walkers and crew of the MS Challenge Walk 2009! Pictures are already popping up on Facebook; do you have any to share?

Congratulations to all walkers and crew on another successful MS Challenge Walk! It got a bit damp out there, but our spirits and soles persevered.

At last year's August celebration party, I spoke about how much fun the MS Challenge Walk isn't — who wants to give up a weekend to spend it pounding the pavement for 50 miles, just to retire to a rock-hard army cot surrounded by snorers? But it's hard to remember to be disgruntled when I see all your smiling faces along the route. Whether we were exchanging high-fives, munching on Snickers, or singing in the rain, we always find ways to turn this march into a happy one.

Besides our memories, the event was captured in a variety of media. Pictures will eventually be added to the National MS Society's photo page, but in the meantime, some photos are already popping up on the MS Challenge Walk group on Facebook. Will you share your own moments with your fellow walkers? Once you join the group, just click the "Add Photos" button. From there, you can upload your pictures directly to the group — or, if you've already uploaded them to your own Facebook album, you can copy pictures from your album to the group's.

The walk may be over, but the mission goes on! Keep an eye on this blog for additional post-event reports and updates.

Ken joined the MS Challenge Walk in 2005, more than a decade after his mother was diagnosed. After walking for three years and 150 miles, he switched to the support crew and now rides his bicycle along the trail, providing whatever encouragement (and snacks!) he can to the 600 walkers. He is also an alumnus of the event's steering committee and is this site's webmaster.
