MS Challenge Walk 2014 promo

Written by on Feb 28, 2014

The MS Challenge Walk is a difficult experience to capture. How do you explain to someone what would make you walk fifty miles — not just one year, but every year? How do you put into words the hope and love that come with strained muscles and flowing tears? It doesn't make sense, and it's almost impossible to convey.

Yet just as we set out to do the impossible by walking fifty miles, so too does the crew of Red Dirt Productions tackle the challenging task of capturing and sharing the experience. For years, Brenda Neary and her crew have come to Cape Cod to volunteer their video production skills to produce commercials based on our walk. They have now unveiled their promotion for MS Challenge Walk 2014:

Three minutes may be the perfect length for the more attentive television generation, but in this age of tweets and Facebook posts, it may tax one's attention span. So here's a 30-second version:

Please share this video on Facebook or put it on Twitter to tell all your friends about this amazing experience!

Ken joined the MS Challenge Walk in 2005, more than a decade after his mother was diagnosed. After walking for three years and 150 miles, he switched to the support crew and now rides his bicycle along the trail, providing whatever encouragement (and snacks!) he can to the 600 walkers. He is also an alumnus of the event's steering committee and is this site's webmaster.

Edible Arrangements promotion a success!

Written by on Nov 4, 2011

You may remember back in September when you were encouraged to purchase an "Orange Blossom" from Edible Arrangements. You may have ordered an Orange Blossom yourself and many of you asked your friends to order, too.

On Thursday, October 27th, Nick D'Alleva, Edible Arrangements store owner, stopped by to present the National MS Society Greater New England Chapter with a check for $5,240!

Nick D'Alleva's Edible Arrangements check

What a delicious sum!

Nick owns three Edible Arrangements franchises — one each in Lynn, Peabody and Beverly. His family has been touched by multiple sclerosis. "My brother-in-law has MS and his mother passed away from it," Nick said. "Now his daughter, my niece, has it and they have two cousins as well that have it."

Nick brought the idea of the Orange Blossom donation program to Edible Arrangements, and he's proud that the success will lead to expanding it.

Thanks to your orders, Edible Arrangements and National MS Society staff are in discussions to have a nationwide MS Awareness month program in March, with donations going to the National MS Society. We appreciate everyone's support!

Danielle was a Development Manager for the Greater New England Chapter of the National MS Society, managing MS Challenge Walk 2011 and 2012. Prior to joining the staff of the National MS Society, Danielle served as a crew team captain during the 2009 and 2010 MS Challenge Walks.

MS Challenge Walk 2011: The Movie

Written by on Mar 25, 2011

In a world where heroes can make a difference — there exists one weekend when they will do the impossible. The stars will align for hundreds of champions to come together and light a flame against the darkness, daring to defy their very fate. Friendships will be forged and all limits shattered, ensuring nothing will ever be the same.

The tragedy and the triumph has critics raving. "STUNNING," says Leonard Maltin. "A MASTERPIECE," according to Steve Sookikian. "TWO THUMBS UP" from Roger Ebert.

Starring YOU, MS Challenge Walk opens September 9, 2011, for a limited engagement of one weekend only. Watch the sneak preview, then get your tickets today!

Fundraising and team-spirit contests

Written by on Jun 19, 2010

Raising $1,500 is a challenge for all walkers. The NMSS's goal is to support and encourage your fundraising efforts every step of the way. With that in mind, we are offering two special fundraising incentives for walkers and teams at the Challenge Walk.

One of the keys to successful fundraising for the MS Challenge Walk is to ask absolutely everyone for support. The more donors you solicit, the more donations you get! The walker with the highest number of donors as of August 15th will "feel the love" and receive special recognition along the walk route and lunch stop each day and during the evening programs.

Another important part of the MS Challenge Walk is teams, which help their members strive for even greater heights. The team with the highest per-walker fundraising average as of August 15th will also be given special recognition along the walk route each day and during the evening programs. In addition, they will receive premium transportation on Sunday from the Wixon School Prefinish BBQ to the Hyannis Transportation Center before the finish line walk and closing ceremony.

Keep up the good work fundraising and recruiting others to join the movement at the MS Challenge Walk. We need your help in continuing to grow this wonderful event. Don't forget to utilize the new and exciting MS Challenge Walk videos on YouTube as a fundraising and recruitment tool.

If you would like to discuss your fundraising campaign and brainstorm new fundraising strategies, please contact us at mschallenge@nmss.org or 800-344-4867 option 2. You can also sign up to receive regular email updates , including a weekly fundraising idea.

Event calendar publicity

Written by on Nov 13, 2009

The MS Challenge Blog has always had an event calendar to which any member of our community can submit a fundraising event that benefits the MS Challenge Walk. Previously, events were listed separately from these blog posts.

Based on user feedback, we are now complementing that separate listing by incorporating events into the main index. That means you'll see events posted here as soon as they are approved for publication, be it days, weeks, or months in advance. Yesterday's "All Smiles for 21+ Dance" listing was the first such event to be posted in this fashion — and it's timely, too, as the dance in question is this very weekend. (Note that the date of the event is given in the red box, not in the byline for the actual post!)

The sooner you submit your event, the sooner it'll be put in front of hundreds of potential supporters!

As always, please contact us if you have any questions about this or any other feature of the Challenge Blog.
