July update

Written by on July 10, 2012 at 7:13 am

Hi, Challengers!

The MS Challenge Walk is fast approaching. There is just 1 month and 29 days until we'll be together on Cape Cod.

Important Form – Housing

The online housing form is now available. Everyone attending the MS Challenge Walk must complete this form, regardless of where you are staying during the event weekend. (This form verifies your emergency contact information as well, so all walkers and crew need to fill it out, even if you're staying at a hotel, not the Sea Camps.) We will do everything we can to accommodate your needs, but priority will be given to those who return their forms first. Deadline to complete the form is August 6, 2012.

We will not be sending out paper forms, so if you are having trouble completing the form, or would like to complete the form over the phone with a member of the MS Challenge Walk team, please call 800-344-4867.

Travel Guide

Our Travel and Information Guide has all of the who/what/wheres of the 2012 MS Challenge Walk. Use this guide to find directions to the Kalmus Beach Parking Area in Hyannis (where all walkers and crew park their cars for the weekend). The guide also has useful information on packing and the weekend schedule.

Training Walk

The next training walk will be held on 7/28 at D.W. Fields Park in Avon/Brockton, the starting address is 156 South St., Avon, MA. The walk is 10-15 miles in length with an start time of 8:00 AM. Walk the entire training route or as much as you wish to do. Find more details on this blog.

Team Apparel

Are you planning on purchasing team t-shirts or other apparel to wear during the Cape Cod Challenge Walk? If you purchase a tee shirt through our Spreadshirt MS Challenge Walk store, 20% of the proceeds will be donated to the National MS Society. The shirt can be fully customized with your team's name, logo, or any other design you wish.

Fundraising

Walkers and Super Crew, how is your fundraising going? Raising $1,500 is a challenge for all walkers. Our goal is to support and encourage your fundraising efforts every step of the way. Crew members achieve "Super Crew" status by raising at least $200 for the MS Challenge Walk.

Our MS Challenge Blog offers many tips on fundraising.

MS Challenge Talk

Have you been listening to MS Challenge Talk?

The Challenge Blog has always been letting the MS community read stories and advice from veterans of the MS Challenge Walk. Now, you're able to hear from these pros directly, in a series of audio interviews. Called MS Challenge Talk, these recordings profile walkers who have accepted the challenge to walk 3 days and 50 miles. Each week, you'll hear from a different walker or volunteer about their connection to the cause, the training and fundraising tricks they've learned, and the memories they've made along the way.

These interviews are completely free and can be listened to anytime you want on the MS Challenge Blog. Every Monday until the walk a new episode will be posted.

Thank you to all the walkers and crew who have been interviewed as a part of our MS Challenge Talk series.

All the best,

Walk MS event season is upon us!

Five Good Reasons to Start Walking (Besides the MS Challenge Walk)

  1. Reduces cholesterol levels
  2. Decrease high blood pressure
  3. Reduces risk of heart disease
  4. Increases energy
  5. Decreases stress

Five Ways to Find Time for Training

  1. Use your lunch hour. Find a nice place to walk during lunch and use that time to get outside. It will not only help your physical self, but it's also great for work stress!
  2. Make it a family activity and hike with the entire family. It will be fun and you can spend some quality time with your family as well as train.
  3. Find a buddy. Having a buddy really helps to keep you motivated!
Set a schedule and keep it written down. Post it on your refrigerator and it will be a reminder.
  4. Reward yourself! Set goals and when you meet them, treat yourself. Get a pedicure, go to the movies or get that hard back new novel you were going to wait for to come out in paper back.

This week is fundraising week!

Written by on July 12, 2011 at 8:08 am

Have you reached your personal fundraising goal for the MS Challenge Walk 2011? This week (July 11–15) is a great opportunity to meet your goal as well as help to move toward reaching our overall Challenge Walk MS goal of $1,150,000!

Each walker is challenged to raise $1,500. Our goal is to support and encourage your fundraising efforts every step of the way! With that in mind, we are offering three special fundraising incentives for walkers and teams participating in the Challenge Walk.

We will be hosting an informational phone and online presentation for walkers to ask questions about fundraising and also to exchange unique ways to solicit donations! Visit the event's listing for details on how you can participate.

It's not too late to register your friends and family, fundraise and join the movement.

One of the keys to successful fundraising for the MS Challenge Walk is to ask absolutely everyone for support.  The more donors you solicit, the more donations you get!  The walker with the highest number of donors as of August 15th will 'feel the love' and receive special recognition along the walk route and lunch stop each day and during the evening programs.

Mini-Challenges This Week

Fundraise Online! Each person who raises at least $250 online this week will be entered to win a fabulous gift certificate for dinner at a local restaurant!*

Show Yourself Some Love! Did you know that walkers who make self-pledges and ask friends for donations typically raise up to six times more money than those who only do one or the other? Each person who makes a self-donation of $10 or more will be entered to win a gift card for Dunkin Donuts!

THE GRAND PRIZE: The person who turns in the most money this week will win an Amazon.com gift card!

Winners will be announced on the MS Challenge Walk Facebook page on Monday, July 18th.

*Participants must raise donations online to be eligible for prizes. Enter offline donations in your participant center before mailing the checks to our PO Box.

Team clothing made easy

Written by on January 13, 2010 at 11:00 am

There are many advantages to being on an MS Challenge Walk team, including support and camaraderie. We're happy to now announce yet another benefit: looking good on the route!

The NMSS has partnered with Spreadshirt.com to create an easy-to-use application to design and order MS Challenge Walk shirts and apparel. You can order as many or as few t-shirts as you want or need. They can even create and ship your order in less than 48 hours. The best part is that Spreadshirt.com will donate 20% of each order back to the National MS Society.

You can design team hats, t-shirts, jackets, and more! Choose from any style, color, cut, etc. Use the pre-selected images or upload your own. Once you have designed your product, you can order for the whole team or customize yours individually.

To let each teammate customize their apparel with their names, just email your final image to challenge@mam.nmss.org and they will add it to the program's image gallery. However, if a team captain places the entire order of shirts for the team (not ordering shirts individually), the NMSS can use this information to track purchases and then count 20% of the order toward the team's fundraising efforts.

You're already a team in spirit; now be a team in style!
